The George Washington Society
The most prestigious of the university’s societies, the George Washington Society honors the commitment and cumulative giving of our most generous supporters, whose cumulative giving totals have reached $100,000 or more during their lifetime. Donors whose cumulative giving totals have reached $1 million or more are considered 1821 Benefactors of the society, named in recognition of the year the university was founded. 
 
The society was established in 2014 to honor those who make possible the teaching, research, and learning opportunities that distinguish this great university.

In an effort to ensure accountability and accuracy are not left behind in the changing landscape of journalism, Char Beales, BA '73 and her husband, Howard Beales, have pledged $3.2 million to the GW School of Media and Public Affairs to fund the Char Beales Endowed Professorship of Accountability in Journalism.
